The Greatest Beer and iPad Invention Ever

August 17th, 2010

Holy shit. Some super nerds from Yelp who have a bit too much time on their hands and a whole ton of creativity have created easily the coolest use for an iPad I’ve seen yet. It’s called the KegMate, and it’s your personal bartender. But the fun doesn’t stop there. The KegMate will also display how much beer has poured, who has been drinking what, and even monitors the temperature of the beer. Sure, anyone can make a kegerator, but who wouldn’t want their own interactive table tap like the ones that were just installed at the Meridian Pint? The best part, you can even rate the beer that was poured. Seriously, please someone make me one of these and send it to my apartment. You will be greeted by a shower of kisses and hugs and a handful of a few dollars! Then I will promptly shut the door with the machine you made for me and call the police, because GET OUT OF MY YARD, YOU WEIRD BEER SCIENTIST MAN. And then I’ll really enjoy this awesome invention. Thanks in advance, invention guy.

What Do Samurai Swords, Simple Syrup, Beer, and Popsicles Have in Common?

August 11th, 2010

Only one of the greatest beer inventions in the history of the world. Ladies and gentleman, meet the Hopsicle.

The Hopsicle Experience or simply Hopsicle, served by a Mexican saloon in New York called Diablo Royale Este, consists of a can of Tecate injected with simple syrup and lime juice, fitted with a wooden stick, and frozen for four days, whereupon the top is chopped off with a samurai sword and it is consumed with a popsicle stick. Sounds tasty.

So it’s essentially a beer push up pop, but much, much more badass. Now, I think Tecate is complete trash, so I’m thinking some fruitier beers would be perfect for something like this, but I can’t think of too many that come out of cans. Maybe giving something like Oskar Blues’s Old Chub a go would be quite tasty? I don’t think I’d want to touch any stout in popsicle form, and any IPA might be a bit much, but maybe adding a touch of strawberry syrup might do the trick?

Either way, if I stop posting for a few months again, just assume I’ve sliced one of my hands off with a samurai sword trying to assemble one of these damn things. Maybe a Bell’s mini-keg-sicle would make this even more extreme? Yup, I smell a trip to the ER already.

Why Didn’t Bud Light Think of This?

December 18th, 2009

beerdogThat Bud Light “Tailgate Tested, Tailgate Approved” guy really missed his opportunity here. The Bark4Beer is a dog collar with a bottle opener on it! And (insert man’s best friend joke here). This might not be a bad stocking-stuffer, though, you know, if you do a lot of drinking with your dog around.

The collar, invented by buddies Adam Harris and John Hornbeak features a built in bottle opener that offers a retractable cord. Just unclip the opener and open your bottle, then retract it back into place. It’s that simple and we have the video below that shows it off.

Not sure what would sound difficult about a bottle opener on a dog’s collar, but I digress. You can pick up your very own Bark4Beer here for only $14.95 plus shipping.

The Bike Beer Bar, you say? Go on …

September 28th, 2009

bikebeer5

Some smart blokes from Portland have created one of the best beer inventions I can remember in recent memory: The Bike Beer Bar.

The bike developed by Hopworks Urban Brewing, has been built on the frame of a cargo bike that carries two kegs of beer and a pizza storage compartment. The bike will be shown off at the upcoming Oregon Manifest handmade bike show.

Talk about a good way to get wonderful microbrews to festivals, fall concerts, or even a good college football tailgate. Extra points to anyone who creates one of these this weekend! Oh, and, Hopworks, feel free to send us a prototype for testing. You don’t want to take chances with it until it’s been BarBEERians approved. Trust me.

Hit the jump for a few more pics of the Bike Beer Bar in action.
